Description

1916 Lincoln Cent, PR65 Brown
Elusive Early Matte Proof

1916 1C PR65 Brown PCGS. CAC. The 1916 matte proof Lincoln cents are the second most elusive in the early series behind the vaunted 1909 VDB proofs. This attractive Gem example displays almond-brown surfaces with no visible carbon and some reddish tinges. A stripe of darker brown runs before Lincoln's head, and the obverse has a bit of woodgrained appearance. The strike is meticulously sharp and the rims high and squared-off. Population: 19 in 65 (1 in 65+) Brown, 10 finer. CAC: 6 in 65, 4 finer (9/20).
