Description

1916 Lincoln Cent, PR65 Brown
Sharp Detail, Exquisite Color

1916 1C PR65 Brown PCGS. The 1916 is the final date in the matte proof Lincoln cent series. Collector demand for proofs of this type gradually declined over the course of the seven-year production period, and coinage in 1916 amounted to only 1,050 pieces, the lowest mintage of the series. This Gem Brown example possesses a coppery-red glow near the borders that enlivens the auburn-brown and deep violet hues that encompass the interiors. There are no detracting spots or contact marks. Lincoln's portrait is tack-sharp, appearing almost hand-carved out of the fields. Population: 17 in 65 (1 in 65+) Brown, 4 finer (11/15).(Registry values: N1793)
