Description

1957 Cent, PR68 Deep Cameo
PCGS: Tied With One Other For Finest

1957 1C PR68 Deep Cameo PCGS. Each side displays picturesque contrast and liquidlike fields. The patina displays a mild copper-pink hue. Proof cent mintage almost doubled from the prior year to 1.2 million, although the modern proof market crashed, causing large mintage declines in 1958. The proof mintage would not exceed 1957 levels until 1960, remarkable given the growth of the hobby at the time. As with other dates of the decade, coins with strong cameo contrast are rare, and the contrast often appears only on one side. The present offering avoids both fates, with some of the strongest contrast of the collection, and is also tied with only one other coin for the title of finest certified. PCGS Population: 2 in 68 Deep Cameo, 0 finer (4/26).
