The Morgan dollar replaced the Trade dollar in 1879 proof sets, although the 1879 proof-only Trade dollar was more popular with collectors and had a significantly higher mintage. This is a boldly contrasted Premium Gem Morgan proof that displays frost-white raised motifs surrounded by glassy, silver-mirrored fields. A scattering of blue, gold, and russet toning decorates the margins. Population: 14 in 66 (3 in 66+) Cameo, 8 finer. CAC: 5 in 66, 5 finer (10/23).(Registry values: N7079)
