Description

Outstanding 1879 Dollar, PR66

1879 $1 PR66 NGC. Ex: Eliasberg. Subdued violet and gray patina adorns the obverse, while deep cobalt-blue and purple coloration fills the reverse fields. While David Bowers (2005) contends that most 1879 proof dollars "... are of low contrast," the sharply impressed motifs of this example stand out against the reflective fields. A couple of minor obverse marks do not detract in the least from the coin's outstanding eye appeal. Census: 30 in 66, 22 finer (8/07).(Registry values: N7079)
