Description

1884 Morgan Dollar, PR66 Cameo
Well-Contrasted, Impeccably Preserved

1884 $1 PR66 Cameo PCGS. While early collectors seldom differentiated between circulation strikes and proofs, they clearly preferred proofs over coins struck for circulation. The Mint cooperated to the extent of 875 proofs in 1884, but only about half of that total survives to this day. Cameo proofs represent a distinct minority of the survivors. This Premium Gem Cameo displays attractive, reddish-gold toning that deepens at the outer margins, surrounding well-frosted and sharply struck devices. Carefully preserved mirrored surfaces are free of any signs of mishandling or contact, with excellent eye appeal. Population: 11 in 66 (3 in 66+) Cameo, 4 finer; 2 in 66 Deep Cameo, 1 finer (9/20).
