Description

1895 Morgan Dollar, PR62
Capstone Key Issue

1895 $1 PR62 PCGS. The proof 1895 Morgan dollar is perhaps the single most important issue in the series, even more so than the 1893-S or 1889-CC. Coinage of the silver dollar was extremely limited in 1895; Philadelphia did not produce any coins for circulation, and New Orleans and San Francisco coined only 450,000 and 400,000 pieces, respectively. Proof production continued on as normal, with a total mintage of 880 pieces in Philadelphia. While not rare in the context of proofs, these Philadelphia-issued 1895 dollars are extremely rare in comparison to the demand for them, as an example is essential for a complete date and mintmark set of Morgan silver dollars, something countless collectors endeavor to assemble.

This is a collectible, lower-grade 1895 proof, with glassy fields residing beneath a blanket of slightly iridescent golden-gray toning. The strike is well-executed and grade-limiting hairlines are only detectable with magnification. An excellent opportunity for the serious collector to obtain this scarce and highly sought-after low-mintage issue.
