    Description

    Cameo PR64 1895 Morgan Dollar

1895 $1 PR64 Cameo PCGS. Although Mint records indicate that 12,000 business strikes were produced of this issue, none survived and the entire mintage may well have been melted under the Pittman Act of 1918. This leaves only the proofs for collectors, of which only 880 pieces were struck. This particular coin may have been one of the first pieces struck from the proof dies as the mint frost on the devices is quite pronounced. The depth of mirrored reflectivity in the fields is unfathomably deep, the combination of both producing a strong two-toned cameo contrast. Both sides also show lovely, light golden-brown patina with an occasional dash of translucent cobalt-blue close to the denticles. Unsurpassable eye appeal at this grade level and quite elusive as a cameo. Population: 6 in 64, 9 finer (10/03).
From the Palm Beach Collection. (#87330) (Registry values: P4, N27188)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 27ZR, PCGS# 87330)

    Weight: 26.73 grams
