Description
Beautifully Toned PR67 1896 Morgan Dollar
1896 $1 PR67 NGC. 1896 $1 PR67 NGC. The 1896 proof dollar is among the best produced of all Morgans, along with the 1882 and 1898. The mintage of 762 pieces, and the high quality of survivors translates into the use of this date for those assembling a proof type set of 19th century U.S. coins. This piece is undoubtedly destined for such a high grade type set. The fields display unfathomable depth of mirrored reflectivity. There is also a significant amount of mint frost over the devices, which sets up a moderate (but unacknowledged by PCGS) contrast on each side. This is significant because the coin is draped in rich layers of cobalt blue and lavender toning. The surfaces are extraordinarily well preserved with no hairlines or noticeable contact marks. A couple of lint marks are located in the left obverse field, but magnification is necessary to see them. Census: 19 in 67, 6 finer (8/07).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 27ZT, PCGS# 7331, GSID# 7844)
