Description

Superlative 1896 Morgan Dollar, PR68

1896 $1 PR68 PCGS. As a general rule, proof Morgan dollars survive in higher numerical grades than business strikes. That is because proofs were acquired by collectors who took the care necessary to preserve them in the best possible quality. However, even the proofs are extremely rare at grades above PR67. The present example, tied with 12 others certified by NGC and PCGS with none finer, illustrates that rarity. It also exhibits incredible multicolored rainbow toning that further enhances its aesthetic appeal and desirability. Clearly evident is its excellent cameo contrast, although the toning prevents a Cameo designation. This highly desirable dollar will please any connoisseur.
