1899 Silver Dollar, PR68 Cameo
1899 $1 PR68 Cameo NGC. An elegant piece with pristine
surfaces and amazing aesthetic appeal, this Superb Gem proof offers
highly lustrous devices surrounded by deeply mirrored fields. No
evidence of toning appears on either side, merely brilliant silver
surfaces with a considerable complement of field-device contrast.
With a business strike mintage of just 330,000 pieces and an
additional 846 proofs, this is an important date in the Morgan
dollar series with few high-quality survivors in either format.
Some collectors who otherwise seek high-grade business strikes have
opted for similar-quality proofs which are more widely available.
Census: 9 in 68 Cameo (1 in 68+ ★ Cameo) (2/13).
