Description

Exuberantly Toned 1899 Morgan PR68

1899 $1 PR68 NGC. A multi-color beauty with arcs of gold, blue-green, and mauve-rose on each side. The strike is just slightly shy of absolute on the hair above the ear, but the design details are otherwise exacting, with the eagle's breast feathers particularly impressive. This pristine specimen delivers an unmatchable combination of eye appeal and preservation. A scant 846 proofs were issued, a lower mintage than the famous 1895 dollar. The associated business strike mintage of 330,000 pieces is among the lowest from the Philadelphia Mint, although Uncirculated examples are much more available than proofs. Census: 4 in 68, 1 finer (8/07).(Registry values: N7079)
