The Childs Collection 1904 Gem Proof Morgan Dollar

1904 $1 PR65 PCGS. Ex: Childs Collection. This is a splendid Gem Morgan dollar proof with iridescent ice-blue and gold patina on both sides, with complementing shades of mint-green and violet. Of course the Walter H. Childs Collection is one of the most famous in U.S. numismatics, chiefly for its 1804 Original or Class I silver dollar graded PR68 by PCGS.
From a low mintage of only 650 proofs for the year, this is one of 29 PR65 coins so graded at PCGS, with 18 finer (8/08). The cataloger in the Bowers and Merena sale noted that Walter H. Childs was believed to have purchased it directly from the Mint.
