Description
1921 Morgan Silver Dollar, PR62
Rare Chapman Proof
Golden Key Light Patina
1921 $1 Chapman PR62 NGC. The story of the Chapman proofs
runs congruent with the Zerbe proofs, as following Farran Zerbe's
strikes, dealer Henry Chapman, would request proofs from Morgan as
well. Reportedly, 10 were sold directly to Chapman, and another
five were supposedly sold to Ambrose Swasey, making the total
estimated mintage 15 according to Bowers. The mintage, however,
seems to be a question of considerable debate as NGC alone has
slabbed 25 while PCGS has graded 52 (2/26). Duplications likely
exist in the published figures. This Chapman example has brilliant mint luster with the expected reflective fields that are synonymous with the variety. The coin features developing golden patina that sits overhead Liberty, similar to a key light, giving it a striking visual. This Chapman represents a rather rare opportunity for type collectors to get their hands on this historically significant proof.(Registry values: N4719)
