Description

Popular 1921 Zerbe Morgan Dollar, PR66

1921 $1 Zerbe PR66 NGC. While not of the same quality as the Chapman proofs of 1921, those struck for Farran Zerbe are much more available; some estimate as many as 200 pieces may have been produced. The diagnostic die scratch above the second U in UNUM is faintly visible under magnification, and, as reassuring as a diagnostic like that may be, it is really not necessary to confirm this coin's proof status. The surfaces are bright and highly lustrous. As on all Zerbes, there is a bit of cartwheel intermixed with the reflectivity in the proof fields. Delicate lilac patina embraces both obverse and reverse, but it is so light that at arm's-length the coin actually appears brilliant. A shallow blemish above Liberty's eye and another on the nose can be used to pedigree this specimen in the future. Census: 7 in 66, 1 finer (8/07).
