    1968 No S Dime, PR68 Cameo
Among the Rarest No S Proof Errors

1968 10C No S PR68 Cameo PCGS. The 1968 No S dime is among the most elusive of the coveted No S proof issues of various denominations -- only the 1975 No S Roosevelt dime issue is rarer. It was also the first No S issue of the modern era, and one for which no records are available. It is estimated that no more than a couple of dozen were struck, and Cameo examples are the rarest graded, as Deep Cameo pieces are unknown. This gleaming example is well-contrasted and shows no more than a trace of rose color on either side. A single tick on President Roosevelt's cheek is apparently all that precludes a PR69 grade. PCGS reports only five submissions in PR68 Cameo and none finer, although a handful survive in PR67 and PR68 non-Cameo as well (1/16). The last example in this grade certified by PCGS was lot 4199 in our Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2013), which brought $30,550. The 1968 No S dime is listed as #3 in Scott Schechter and Jeff Garrett's 100 Greatest Modern U.S. Coins.(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 59SA, PCGS# 85245)
