Attractive Premium Gem Proof 1915 Twenty Dollar

1915 $20 PR66 NGC. Ex: Trompeter. The 1915 double eagle has always been a very popular coin when it has been offered for sale in public auction. Not only is it rare in the absolute sense with no more than 30 pieces known today out of an impressively low mintage of only 50 coins, but it is also a widely recognized condition rarity as well. The surfaces of this coin have an identical texture to the 1914, but are noticeably lighter in hue with more of a yellow-gold caste. The design elements are well struck throughout. What appear to be criss-cross die striations are noted on the obverse. Census: 4 in 66, 1 finer (9/05).

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
