    Description

    1837 Seated Dime, PR63
    No Stars, Large Date, F-101

1837 10C No Stars, Large Date, F-101, R.7, PR63 PCGS. Just one die pair was used to strike both proof and commercial 1837 Large Date dimes. The proofs came first, since they lack the prominent diagonal obverse die cracks often seen on business strikes. The mintage of proofs is unknown, but Breen (1989) estimated 30+ specimens were coined June 30, 1837, presumably to commemorate the advent of the Seated Liberty type. The present fully struck and nicely mirrored Select dime displays cream-gray motifs and peach-gold fields. The margins exhibit lavender and ruby-red toning. Incidental field contact corresponds with the designated grade.
