    Description

Important PR62 No Drapery 1839 Dime

1839 10C No Drapery PR62 PCGS. Fortin-109 with stars 8 and 10 repunched. Pastel butter-gold, rose-red, and lime-green endow this exactingly struck and nicely mirrored specimen. Hairlines are minimal for the grade. PCGS and NGC combined have certified only six proofs, and none have appeared in a Heritage auction since at least 1993, when our online archives begin. Very rare as a proof date, and also significant as a briefly issued proof subtype, since stars and were added in 1838 and drapery was added to the design beneath the raised elbow in 1840. Housed in a first generation holder. Population: 1 in 62, 2 finer (4/08).
Ex: Kamal Ahwash; Jascha Heifetz Collection (Superior, 10/1989), lot 3546.
    From The Silbermünzen Collection.
