Description

1846 Seated Liberty Dime, PR62
Rare Early Proof Issue

1846 10C F-102, R.7, PR62 PCGS. No official records were kept of the number of proof dimes struck in 1846, though the mintage was undoubtedly minuscule. Only about 10 to 15 are believed to exist today in all grades. PCGS and NGC combined have encapsulated 15 examples, though it is possible a few of these reflect resubmissions of the same coin. This piece ranks as one of three for the grade at PCGS, with six finer (11/15). The devices are fully brought up, with deep mirroring in the fields. Largely untoned, with bright, steel-gray surfaces.
