    1847 Seated Dime, PR66 Cameo
    Ex: Eliasberg-Kaufman

1847 10C PR66 Cameo NGC. This impressive high-grade 1847 dime, certified PR66 Cameo, resided in the J.M. Clapp Collection and estate for nearly 50 years from 1894 until 1942, in the famous Eliasberg Collection and estate for more than half a century from 1942 to 1996, and in the Kaufman Collection for a dozen years. Just three owners held this beauty for 115 years of its history.

We are only aware of five proof 1847 dimes in all grades, and this piece from the Clapp, Eliasberg, and Kaufman collections remains the finest of those five coins, including one in the Smithsonian Institution. It is the finest certified, the only one designated with Cameo contrast, and the only 1847 Seated Liberty dime that NGC has graded proof.

Delightful field-device contrast appears on both sides of this marvelous Premium Gem proof, each of which is delicately toned with occasional wisps of cobalt-blue, pale purple, and golden-brown. An attentive strike brings out strong definition on the mildly frosted design features, none of which reveal even a hint of weakness. A few wispy handling marks visible under high magnification in the fields likely preclude an even higher grade! This coin possesses great overall appeal.
