Description

1853 Arrows Dime, PR65
Second-Finest Known
From the Pittman Collection

1853 10C Arrows PR65 PCGS. CAC. When we cataloged the finest known proof 1853 Arrows dime for our December 2015 Houston Money Show sale, we presented a roster of five proofs. The present coin was recorded as the second finest of those five examples. The combined PCGS and NGC population of eight coins includes resubmissions and crossovers, and we believe the roster of five coins is accurate. Prominent clash marks appear on both sides of this piece, as on the Gardner example. The prevailing sunset-orange on each side is complemented by dollops of ocean-blue at the obverse margin and some silver areas remaining on the obverse.
