Doubled Die 1856 Seated Dime, PR66 Cameo

1856 10C PR66 Cameo NGC. Doubled Die Obverse. Breen-3295, Greer-105. The number of surviving proof 1856 Seated dimes is likely rather small, perhaps 20 or so pieces. They were apparently all struck from this single doubled obverse die, according to Walter Breen. The doubling is plainly visible on the shield and ribbon, with LIBERTY, the ribbon borders, and all horizontal and vertical shield stripes boldly doubled.
This amazing Premium Gem proof has exquisite cameo contrast with deeply mirrored fields beneath intense blue and lilac toning. The central devices are lighter gold, presenting exceptional aesthetic appeal. Census: 2 in 66 Cameo, 1 finer (12/08).
