Description

Brilliant Cameo PR66 1859 Dime

1859 10C PR66 Cameo NGC. The With Stars type is only really available in two years, 1858 and 1859; otherwise, it is rarely seen in earlier years. Only 800 proofs were struck, but far fewer have survived. In all grades and from both services around 200 pieces have been certified, both as Cameo and non-Cameo. This number helps confirm that numerous proofs remained unsold at year's end and were probably melted, as in 1860. This is a spectacular coin that has deeply reflective fields. The devices display a strong overlay of mint frost which gives the coin its cameo contrast. Census: 3 in 66, 5 finer (8/07). (Registry values: N4719)
