Description

1859 Dime, PR66
Deeply Mirrored and Richly Toned

1859 10C PR66 NGC. The 1859 Seated dime proof is the first for which we can be reasonably certain of its mintage figure, as the 1858 proof production went unreported and the number is a matter of guesswork and estimation--even though the Mint in 1858 did begin publicly offering proof coins to collectors. The 1859's mintage was 800 pieces. The present Premium Gem 1859 is a deeply mirrored and carefully preserved example. Both sides are covered in multiple layers of toning in shades of blue, gray, rose, and violet, while the margins have paler green patina. Among the most impressive survivors from this early proof issue. Census: 27 in 66, 7 finer (1/11).
