Description

Deeply Mirrored 1859 Dime, PR67 Cameo

1859 10C PR67 Cameo NGC. The official mintage for the 1859 dime was 800 pieces. However, an unknown number were melted as unsold at year's end, leaving an uncertain amount that were actually sold to collectors. The 1859 is the most available proof of what is essentially a two-year type in proof format, since it was not until 1858 that the Mint began larger scale production of proof coinage for sale to collectors. This is a deeply mirrored proof striking that shows considerable mint luster over the devices even though each side is toned deep rose with cobalt-blue at the margins. Census: 5 in 67 Cameo, 0 finer (2/10).(Registry values: N4719)
