Description
1859 Transitional Dime, PR65
Judd-233, Elusive Guide Book Variety
1859 10C Transitional, Judd-233, Pollock-280, High R.6, PR65
PCGS. CAC. The Stars Obverse design appears on regular issue
dimes minted from 1838 to 1859, and the Cereal Wreath reverse
design appears on regular issue dimes minted from 1860 to 1891.
This variety combines the two designs into a transitional pattern
that is struck in silver with a reeded edge. This stunning Choice
proof dime exhibits fully mirrored fields that surround sharply
defined devices beneath an overlay of gold, lavender, and blue
patina. Diagonal die striations are clearly evident in the obverse
and reverse fields.Ex: Lindesmith Collection Sale (Bowers and Merena, 11/1999), lot 1145; Eugene H.
