Description

1859 Transitional Dime, Deeply Toned PR65
Judd-233, Without a Country Designation

1859 10C Transitional PR65 NGC. Judd-233, Pollock-280, High R.6 The 1859 transitional dime was created when Mint Director James Ross Snowden suggested muling a starred obverse die with the new reverse adopted in 1860, resulting in a coin that contained no mention of the United States. It is believed that fewer than two dozen are known. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. The fields are brightly mirrored, quite remarkable actually when one considers the depth of cobalt-blue and reddish patina thickly layered on each side. A wire rim appears on both sides, and the strike details are complete in all areas.(Registry values: N2998)
