Description

Spectacular, Richly Toned PR66 1860 Dime

1860 10C Seated Dime PR66 NGC. CAC (Green Label). Breen-3318, the "Five Lines" shield. The Legend Obverse and "Cereal Wreath" reverse was first introduced on dimes and half dimes in 1860. Again, Mint Director Snowden overestimated public enthusiasm for proofs from this year and it is believed that 527+ were sold with the remainder melted. This is a lovely coin that has taken on several layers of deep blue and rose toning, and yet the mirrored fields flash forcefully through the coloration. The grade effectively communicates the quality of the coin with no obvious post-striking problems on either side.(Registry values: N1793)
