Description

1861 Dime, PR65 Cameo
Beautiful Album Toning

1861 10C PR65 Cameo PCGS. F-101, R.4. Type Two Obverse. In 1861, a thousand proof sets were struck and offered to the public. But coin collectors had other concerns at the advent of the Civil War, and only a minority of the sets were sold. The remaining inventory was eventually melted. Today, the proof 1861 dime is very scarce, and only a handful of examples have been certified as Cameo. This is a sharply struck and flashy specimen with rich orange-red and cobalt-blue peripheral patina. Population: 2 in 65 Cameo, 3 finer (4/24).(Registry values: P1)
