Description

1863 Dime, PR66+ Deep Cameo
Stark White-on-Black Appearance
A Rarity This Fine

1863 10C PR66+ Deep Cameo PCGS Secure. F-101, R.4. Only one pair of dies was employed for dime coinage in 1863, for proofs and circulation strikes. The mintages totaled only 460 and 14,000 pieces, respectively. These low-production figures, along with the rarity of surviving high-grade circulation strikes, drives strong demand for attractive proofs. This Premium Gem Deep Cameo has just a few peers with one piece finer at PCGS (4/18). Razor-sharp definition includes Liberty's temple, which is often weak, and the stark white-on-black contrast is unhindered by toning. The depth of mirroring in the fields is outstanding, and no distracting marks are seen. An outstanding example of the date and a lovely proof type coin. Population: 3 in 66 (1 in 66+) Deep Cameo, 1 finer (4/18).(Registry values: N2998)
