1876 Dime, Richly Toned PR67
Doubled-Die Reverse

1876 10C PR67 NGC. Fortin-103. This wondrous Superb Gem proof offers lavish cobalt-blue, caramel-gold, and plum-red patina. Moderate frost covers the relief elements. The flashy fields are unabraded, and the strike is intricate throughout. A top-notch representative.

Variety: Fortin-103, Type One Reverse, Small Knob 6. The reverse die is doubled, most notably on the D and E in DIME.

Population Data (3/15): NGC reports four PR67 (one PR67 ) and one PR68 finer. PCGS shows nine submissions in PR66 (two PR66+) with none finer.

Heritage Commentary: A new reverse hub was introduced in 1876, but all proof varieties were struck using the old Type One hub. The Mint increased production of proofs to 1,150 coins, as the Centennial celebrations heightened demand for souvenirs among collectors.
