Description

1879 Dime, PR67 ★ Cameo
Conditionally Rare

1879 10C PR67 ★ Cameo NGC. F-101. Reddish-purple toning surround the obverse rim of this stunning PR67 ★ Cameo dime, with barely a hint of color evident on the reverse. The design elements are sharply impressed and display pronounced contrast with the mirrored fields, especially on the reverse. Both sides are impeccably preserved.

Variety: Fortin-101, R.5. The proof dies show a medium level date.

Population Data (9/15): NGC reports two coins in PR67 Cameo and none finer. PCGS shows three in PR66 Cameo and none finer.

Heritage Commentary: The small mintage of 14,000 circulation strikes and their rarity in higher grades puts pressure on the proofs from date collectors. The current Superb Gem Star Cameo proof is a significant condition rarity in this level of preservation.

Provenance: Purchased from Jason Carter (12/2005).(Registry values: N2998)
