Description

1884 Dime, Patinated PR67
Seldom Seen Finer

1884 10C F-101, R.3, PR67 PCGS. CAC. A melange of lavender, orange, purple, and emerald-green patination adorns this Superb Gem proof dime. The design elements are sharply struck throughout, and the surfaces on both sides are impeccably preserved. This piece exudes great overall eye appeal and is well-deserving of CAC endorsement.

Variety: Fortin-101, R.3. The medium level date shows a slight downward slope from left to right.

Population Data (9/15): PCGS reports 12 in PR67 (one PR67+) and three finer, while NGC shows 21 in PR67 and five PR68 (two PR68 ★ ) finer.

Heritage Commentary: One of three examples of this proof date in the Gardner Collection, struck to the extent of 875 pieces. Seldom does a finer-graded piece than the present coin -- or one with greater eye appeal, for that matter -- appear at auction. The lovely color on this coin should single it out to many discriminating bidders.

Provenance: Stack's (11/2006), lot 63.

Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 539055, Base PCGS# 4781)
