    Description

    1884 Dime, PR65 Cameo
    Pleasing Eye Appeal, Ex: Eliasberg

1884 10C PR65 Cameo PCGS. CAC. F-101. Ex: Eliasberg. Cobalt-blue patina clings to the margins of this Gem Cameo proof, framing reddish-gold toning. The color palette is somewhat deeper on the reverse. Sharply struck design features and well-cared-for surfaces round out the pleasing eye appeal, aptly recognized by CAC.

Variety: Fortin-101, R.3. The proof dies shows a medium date with a slight downward slope.

Population Data (9/15): PCGS reports 15 in PR65 Cameo (one PR65+ Cameo) and 22 finer. This former Eliasberg coin is among only five in this grade with the CAC green bean.

Heritage Commentary: The present Gem Cameo proof with its pleasing eye appeal and Eliasberg pedigree will make a significant addition to a Seated dime collection. Gene Gardner owned two other examples of this date, a PR67 PCGS coin and a PR68 NGC piece.

Provenance: Chapman Brothers (11/1893), private sale to J.M. Clapp; Clapp Estate, 1942, to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr.; Eliasberg Collection (Bowers and Merena (5/1996), lot 1225.(Registry values: N1793) (NGC ID# 23D9, PCGS# 84781)
