Description

1885 Seated Liberty Dime, PR68
Strong Registry Set Contender

1885 10C F-101, R.3, PR68 NGC. Ex: P. Kaufman. Olive-blue highlights around the obverse periphery and throughout the reverse enliven the otherwise antique-copper appearance of those areas. The center of the obverse, however, is toned in reddish-gray hues. Both sides reveal the expected reflectivity in the fields at direct angles of observation, and the razor sharp strike also confirms this coin as a proof. Like the 1884 (to which it compares favorably in terms of rarity), the 1885 is an otherwise common date that becomes decidedly rare at the finer levels of Superb Gem preservation. Census: 3 in 68 (1 in 68 ), 0 finer (11/15).
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 5/2003), lot 5927; Baltimore Signature (Heritage, 7/2003), lot 6597.
