Description

1886 Seated Dime, PR68 ★
Sole Finest Certified

1886 10C PR68 ★ NGC. The 1886 silver proof sets had an easily remembered mintage figure that is the last three digits of the date -- 886 pieces of each denomination. Breen makes the interesting comment that "many also come with flat heads, apparently from careless manufacture involving only one blow from the press." This piece is, nonetheless, well if not fully struck throughout both sides, including the head and the bowknot opposite on the reverse. Lovely original peripheral patina in shades of cobalt-blue and pink-gold reinforces the quality and excellent eye appeal that garners the Star designation. Census: 1 in 68 ★ , 0 finer (4/11).(Registry values: N4719)
