Description
1889 Dime, Patinated PR68
One of Two Known
1889 10C PR68 NGC. F-102. Blue-green and lavender toning
visits the obverse of this Superb Gem proof, while the reverse
consists of a medley of lavender, russet, orange, and
emerald-green. The design elements are sharply struck, and both
sides are immaculately preserved. Unimprovable in all respects.Variety: Fortin-102, R.4. The proof dies show a medium date with a downward slope, thin numerals, and an open 9.
Population Data (9/15): NGC reports two examples in PR68 and none finer. PCGS reports none in PR68. Most certified examples range from PR63 to PR66. This issue becomes extremely rare at the PR67 level.
Heritage Commentary: The 1889 dime saw a production of 711 proofs, and as the population reports indicate this issue is readily available through Premium Gem. The present PR68 offering presents the Seated dime specialist with an infrequent opportunity to acquire a significant proof rarity that displays outstanding technical quality and aesthetic appeal.
