    Description

Attractive Superb Gem Proof 1889 Dime

1889 10C PR 67 NGC. An exquisitely toned superb gem that is difficult to locate above the MS 66 grade tier. Both sides of this specimen display attractive target toning that originates with electric-blue patina about the peripheries. After passing briefly through an intense lilac hue, the color scheme terminates in delicate champagne-russet toning over the central fields and devices. The underlying features display an endearing cameo contrast. As befits the assigned grade, the strike is needle sharp and the surfaces are free of even the most wispy hairline. This is a beautiful piece that admirably fulfills its duty as an ambassador of its series. NGC and PCGS combined report a scant 8 pieces in PR 67 with a lone PR 68 NGC specimen finer (6/99). (NGC ID# 23DE, PCGS# 4786)
