Description

PR55 1846 Silver Dollar
Rare Proof Date

1846 $1 PR55 NGC. Breen-5436. Noted numismatist Duncan Lee wrote in 2006 that "all known proofs of this year are restrikes and have [a] dramatically recut date. This obverse is paired with the common reverse." Lee ranked the 1846 as the sixth rarest proof date of the Seated Liberty series. This well struck and lightly toned specimen retains much proof flash though the neck feathers show slight rub. Moderate marks are noted near the date and the TES in STATES.(Registry values: N1)
