Description

1851 Seated Dollar Restrike, PR63 Cameo
Well-Contrasted Rarity

1851 $1 Restrike PR63 Cameo PCGS. In 1851 the gold was flowing from California, driving down its price relative to silver and upsetting any bimetallic balance the U.S. monetary system once had enjoyed. While gold dollars were made by the millions, their silver Seated counterparts had an unknown but doubtless tiny mintage that inspired the creation of proof restrikes such as this Cameo Select specimen. Both sides have clear contrast through semitransparent golden luster that is at its most opaque near the rims. Lightly hairlined through the fields with a line of shallow reed marks to the left of Liberty's rock but high all-around visual appeal for the grade. Population: 3 in 63 Cameo, 1 finer (5/13).
