Description

    1852 Silver Dollar, PR60
    Restrike, Reverse of 1859

1852 $1 Restrike PR60 NGC. Researchers agree that all proof 1852 Seated dollars were struck from the same obverse die. More than one reverse is known. Possibly, all proofs are restrikes, struck after 1852. This was the opinion of David Akers, though Breen believed that some proofs were originals. The present lot is struck from the same reverse die as the proof 1859 dollar, and was probably coined circa-1859, contemporary with the Snow-9 1856 Flying Eagle cents and other unofficial restrike activity at the Mint. This is a fully struck and lightly toned specimen with a glimpse of peach-gold and navy-blue at the left obverse margin. A loupe reveals only minor hairlines and a hair-thin mark on the field near the dentils at 4 o'clock on the reverse.
