Description
1852 Restrike Dollar, PR62
Classic Seated Liberty Rarity
1852 $1 Restrike PR62 PCGS. According to Mint records, only
1,100 Seated Liberty dollars were struck in 1852, making the date
quite elusive at the time of issue. When coin collecting became a
widespread hobby later in the decade, a small number of proof
Restrikes were produced to satisfy collector demand. Restrikes were
probably struck at later dates as well, since several reverse dies
have been identified. This coin was struck using Bowers Reverse 6,
which was also used as Reverse 2 on the 1851 proof Restrike
dollar. The present coin exhibits sharply detailed design elements and deeply mirrored fields, with a scattering of minor contact marks in the fields. The surfaces are mostly brilliant, with just a hint of pale gold toning. Eye appeal is quite strong for the grade. Population: 4 in 62, 8 finer (6/13).
