Description
Colorful Choice Proof 1854 Seated Dollar
1854 $1 PR64 NGC. Vivid aquamarine and olive-gold embraces this exactingly struck and beautifully preserved Choice proof Seated dollar. Only a small granular area beneath the first T in STATES provides an identifier. From the usual proof obverse die with what Bowers (1993) calls "a triangular raised defect or 'island' above and to the right of the numeral 5 in the date." Duncan Lee (2006) suggests the defect is the top of a misplaced 4. It may also represent an upper left fragment of the crosslet of a misplaced 4. The reverse die has a light horizontal die line beneath the E in ONE. As is the case with all pre-1858 proofs of the series, the 1854 is very rare and highly desirable. Census: 7 in 64, 2 finer (2/08).From The Queller Family Collection of Silver Dollars.(Registry values: N7079)
