Description

1855 Seated Dollar, PR60
Charcoal Highlights

1855 $1 PR60 NGC. OC-P1, High R.5. Steel-blue surfaces are illuminated with charcoal highlights in the protected areas. Softness is nowhere to be found, and a few errant abrasions do not detract from eye appeal. Osburn-Cushing estimate the 40 survivors. Interestingly, both Proofs and circulation strikes were produced from the same die marriage. Differentiating the two is a judgement call. All examples with die cracks are circulation strikes, and all Proofs have a die line on the rim below the E in ONE, but this latter diagnostic is not unique to that format.(Registry values: N4719)
