Richly Toned Select Proof
1856 $1 PR63 PCGS. Owing to the uncertainty involved with
mintages of pre-1858 U.S. proof coinage, scholars cannot settle on
an original production figure for the proof Seated dollars of 1856.
The rarity of surviving specimens, however, is indubitable. This
Select proof is a colorful representative given over to broad
gold-to-orange patina. Green and violet overtones are isolated on
the obverse but more prominent across stretches of the reverse.
Though lightly hairlined with a few contact marks, this glossy
Select proof remains an important and readily collectible piece of
earlier proof U.S. coinage history.
