Description

1858 Seated Dollar, PR64 Cameo
Osburn-Cushing P1

1858 $1 PR64 Cameo NGC. CAC. OC-P1, Low R.4. Two die varieties are known for the small mintage of 1858 Seated Liberty silver dollars that were only produced in proof format. At one time it was believed that just 80 proofs were struck during the year, but the lack of Mint records means the actual production quantity is unknown. Based on the number of survivors, most numismatists now believe the mintage was in the range of 300 coins. PCGS has certified 110 examples in all grades, while NGC has examined 76 pieces. Only 11 of the 186 certified pieces are designated as Cameo proofs, and there are no Deep Cameo examples at either service. This Choice Cameo proof has deeply mirrored fields that frame the lustrous, champagne-toned devices, creating excellent eye appeal. Census: 4 in 64 Cameo (1 in 64+), 3 finer. CAC: 4 in 64, 1 finer (5/18).
