Description

1859 Seated Dollar, PR62
First Year of Regular Proof Sales

1859 $1 PR62 NGC. OC-P1, R.3. Lilac and apricot create a lovely patina, complemented with deeper regions at the left obverse. All design details exhibit razor-sharp definition. A few marks around Liberty's face comprise the only notable abrasions. The introduction of widely-distributed, well-documented Proof issues corresponded with a sharp increase in mintages, from an estimated 75-90 in 1857, to an estimated 275 in 1858, to a confirmed figure of 800 in 1859.(Registry values: N2998)
