Description

1859 Seated Dollar, PR66
Reflective Two-Toned Surfaces

1859 $1 PR66 NGC. Although the Guide Book records a proof mintage of 800 pieces for the 1859 Seated dollar, likely only 450 or so were actually distributed to collectors. This highly reflective Premium Gem shows the obverse considerably darker-toned, offering a deep rose center complementing a blue margin. The reverse center is near-brilliant with wide rings of gold-rose and blue toward the periphery. The reverse displays a definite cameo effect, the obverse less so due to the toning. A curious circular die flaw in the field to the left of Liberty's upper hand identifies this coin. Census: 20 in 66, 40 finer (9/12).(Registry values: N7079)
