Description

1860 Silver Dollar, PR66
Dazzling Electric Blue Surfaces
One of the Finest Certified

1860 $1 PR66 PCGS. OC-P1, R.2. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/a, as always. A radiant obverse teems with electric-blue toning, highlighted with rose on the right side. The reverse is clad in the same peach found on many of the Seated dollars in this collection, but with electric blue around the border. This coin is well-defined, peaking once again on the reverse feathers.
The mintage reaches 1,330 coins, the highest of the proof Seated dollar series, and survivorship crests at about 500 examples, mirroring the rise of the proof Seated dollars' popularity. A single die marriage is confirmed. A second pairing with Reverse 1856 PA has been proposed, as it was used for all other years from 1856 through 1861, but it is currently unknown. This die pairing was also used for circulation strikes, but these account for less than one third of the coins struck from these dies.
This proof is unquestionably one of the finest non-Cameo examples of this issue. PCGS has only certified one PR66+ and one PR67 above this coin, and NGC adds only a single MS66+★ and a pair of PR67s to that list (4/26).
